Jay Patterson graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in 2000. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2004. He was privileged to have served as a judicial extern to the Hon. Jeremy D. Fogel at the San Jose Division of the United States District Court in 2003. His two-person team was declared the winner of the Alan G. Martin Prize for Best Team in the Santa Clara University School of Law’s annual Honors Moot Court competition in 2003. He served on the Honors Moot Court Board for the 2003 – 2004 academic year, co-chairing the committee responsible for creating the factual and legal controversies at issue in the problem.
Mr. Patterson’s practice is focused on representing parties in litigation, in matters as diverse as trust litigation, contract disputes, and insurance claims. Mr. Patterson has an overall winning trial record, including defending a small business owner from a claim of breach of lease, defending a trust from attack by a disgruntled beneficiary, and prevailing on a claim for unpaid compensation on appeal from a decision of the Labor Commission. He has extensive experience in civil litigation including personal injury, insurance bad faith, real property, law enforcement civil rights, and trust contest matters.
At Beach Cowdrey Jenkins, LLP Mr. Patterson represents health care providers, including physicians, nurses, skilled nursing facilities and residential care facilities, against claims of medical malpractice, personal injury and wrongful death.
Mr. Patterson is admitted to practice before all California state courts. He lives in the Sacramento area with his wife, three children, a dog and a cat.
