James J. Ison

James J. Ison graduated from Stanford University, with distinction, in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts in History.  In 2000, he received his Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where he graduated in the top 15% of his class and won awards for brief writing and oral advocacy.

Mr. Ison is a seasoned trial attorney who has represented Bank of America, Travelers, Carolina Casualty Insurance Company, InfraSource and other publicly traded corporations in high stakes, complex commercial litigation in state and federal courts.  He has prosecuted and defended consumer class action lawsuits, delay claims arising from large scale public infrastructure projects, environmental disaster actions under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), catastrophic injury cases, and products liability suits involving corporations and public entities such as Hyundai Motors America, the U.S. Department of Energy, Black & Veatch, the City and County of San Francisco, Pacific Gas & Electric, and the Controller of the State of California.

At Beach Cowdrey Jenkins, LLP Mr. Ison represents hospitals, health maintenance organizations, skilled nursing facilities, residential care facilities, medical professionals, and other health care providers in civil litigation, including violations of the Elder Abuse Act, professional negligence claims, employment disputes, and breach of contract cases.  He also represents health care providers in administrative proceedings before regulatory bodies and in appellate matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the California Courts of Appeal.

Before college and law school, Mr. Ison enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as an infantryman.  He served as a TOW missile gunner on the front lines of the 1991 Persian Gulf War and was awarded a Combat Action Ribbon for his service.  While in college, he taught pre-school at Stanford’s top ranked Bing Nursery School, a program within its School of Humanities and Sciences designed to promote the understanding of child development and improve the lives of children.

Mr. Ison is admitted to practice before all California trial and appellate courts, the United States District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Central and Southern Districts of California, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
